Bachata emerged from the bachatas or street parties of the Dominican Republic in the 1960s.
The bachateros gathered to play very romantic music closely related to the Cuban bolero which, over the next forty years, developed into the bachata of today.
As time went on, in order to make bachata include more danceable music, couples began to perform a more sensual partner dance with the same name.
